Love Resurrected is Timothy Paul Schmalz’s newest interpretation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, created to accompany a significant moment in the life of the Catholic Church. A fiberglass proof of the sculpture was presented during the Spring Plenary Assembly of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, where the bishops gathered to consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the eve of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart.
Commissioned by the Regina Apostolorum Foundation, the sculpture was developed through a close collaboration between the Foundation and Schmalz. The work presents a unique vision of Christ at the Resurrection, drawing inspiration from the image of the Man of the Shroud of Turin. Emerging from the burial shroud, Christ reveals His Sacred Heart as a symbol of divine love that conquers death and offers hope to the world.
Rather than serving simply as a devotional image, Love Resurrected reflects the enduring role of sacred art in communicating the Gospel. Through sculpture, Schmalz seeks to invite contemplation, inspire faith, and encourage a deeper encounter with the Risen Christ.
The Regina Apostolorum Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to evangelization and the formation of servant leaders, commissioned the work as part of its mission to bring the message of Christ into contemporary culture through beauty and artistic excellence.
Following its unveiling, the fiberglass proof will travel to various locations throughout the United States, allowing audiences to experience the sculpture before the original bronze is permanently installed at the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center. There, it will become part of the permanent exhibition dedicated to the Shroud of Turin, connecting the mystery of Christ’s Passion, Resurrection, and Sacred Heart in the heart of Jerusalem.
Love Resurrected stands as an invitation to reflect on the transforming power of Christ’s love—a love that triumphs over suffering, overcomes death, and continues to call every heart toward hope and renewal.
